Getting back to work after the Christmas and New Year holidays was even harder than expected on Monday.
This is because Slack, the enterprise messaging app that has become a staple for many workers to communicate with each other during the COVID-19 pandemic, crashed worldwide on the first full business day of the 2021.
The company issued a statement shortly after 10 a.m. Monday in the East, noting that “customers may have trouble uploading messages or connecting to Slack,” adding that their computer is investigating the problem.
Half an hour later, Slack Technology Inc. WORK,
posted another statement stating that he had no additional information to share, writing “Thank you for having us with us.” around 12:30 pm East. The company posted an update explaining that “While the issue is still ongoing, we believe some customers may improve their connection to Slack after an upgrade.”
While the service was out, remote workers who could not send direct, real-time messages to their bosses and colleagues took to Twitter to express their frustration, make jokes, or to congratulate that group. : “I’m not ready to go back to work anyway,” as well as fears that 2021 was shaping up to be as chaotic as 2020.
The service has reported that more than 10 million users and 750,000 companies use Slack. Slack shares fell slightly during the break on Monday morning.
This article has been updated and Slack begins resuming service Monday afternoon.
