Prince Harry spoke with James Corden about his decision to retire from the royal family last year during a surprise appearance on “The Late Late Show” early Friday.
The Duke of Sussex joined the animator for an extensive interview, where the two Facetimed with Meghan Markle and Harry even spilled literal tea (while riding on a double-decker bus to Los Angeles). Although no car-sharing karaoke was done, there were some raps by the prince as he sang the song from the song “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
When Corden presented Prince Harry’s decision to move away from the royal family, the duke hurried to clarify, “He never left.”
“It was going backwards instead of downsides,” Harry said. “It was a really difficult environment, because I think a lot of people saw it. We all know what the British press can be like. And it was destroying my mental health. He was telling me, “This is toxic.” So I did what any husband and any father would do and what it was like: ‘I need to get my family out of here’ ”.
“But we never walked away,” he added. “And as for me, and whatever decisions are made on this side, I will never leave. I will always contribute. But my life is public service. So wherever in the world, it will be the same. ”

They ended the interview with (what else) an obstacle course:
Corden and the royal were shot on a two-story bus in Los Angeles earlier this month. Although CBS did not respond to HuffPost’s request at the time, an anonymous source told People that the duo “recorded an appropriate COVID segment of ‘Carpool Karaoke on the two-story platform” and that there there was “a lot of joke around” for old friends.
Meghan and Harry will appear together on March 7 for a 90-minute show with Oprah Winfrey, titled “Oprah with Meghan and Harry.” This will mark the first in-camera interview for the couple since they announced they were stepping back as working members of the royal family in January 2020.
A year after the couple’s decision, Buckingham Palace confirmed last week that the two “would not return as working members of the royal family”.

A Sussex spokesman said in a statement shared with HuffPost that Harry and Meghan “remain committed to their duty and service in the UK and around the world and have offered their continued support to organizations they have represented regardless of official role. “.
“We can all live a life of service,” the spokesman said. “The service is universal.”
