ATLANTA (AP) – Silento, the Atlanta rapper known for his song “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)”, was arrested Monday and charged with murder in the shooting death of his 34-year-old cousin, according to authorities reported.
DeKalb County police said in a statement on Twitter that 23-year-old rapper named Legal Ricky Hawk was arrested in this Atlanta suburb. The police statement said he is in the county jail, charged with murder in connection with the January 21 death of Frederick Rooks.
The statement does not detail the circumstances of Hawk’s death or arrest.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Hawk remained without bail Monday afternoon.
The newspaper had previously reported that police responded to a shooting call on Jan. 21 around 3:30 a.m. in the community of Panthersville, DeKalb County. The newspaper quoted police as saying officers found Rooks dead with multiple gunshot wounds tonight.
It was not immediately known if Hawk had a lawyer who could comment on it. His manager did not immediately respond to a request for feedback via email Monday night.
