Sacha Baron Cohen wants outgoing President Donald Trump banned from all social media platforms.
After Twitter, Facebook and Instagram suspended the president from their respective platforms after the Capitol Hill riots, the actor is now waiting for YouTube to go online and ban Trump’s account as others have done.
Coming to Twitter, the 49-year-old actor urged Alphabet officials, namely YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, to suspend Trump’s account from his platform for share videos and do the “right thing” for American democracy.
“Virtually every social media company has eliminated Trump … EXCEPT for YouTube. Trump’s YouTube channel continues to show videos of his election to millions of people. Retweet and report to @Google, @sundapichai, @YouTube, @SusanWojcicki: Do the right #BanTrumpSaveDemocracy “, Cohen wrote on Twitter.
In another tweet, the “Borat” star called YouTube the new “Trump TV” and criticized companies that posted ads in videos that allegedly incited riot police to storm the Capitol.
“YouTube is the new Trump TV. Trump’s YouTube channel shows 4,000 videos of Trump, including “stop the theft” and call for “fight”. Corporate America: WHY Post Your Ads on You Tube Trump TV ?! RT to say it on @Google, @YouTube, @SusanWojcicki. #BanTrumpSaveDemocracy, ”Cohen he tweeted.
Aside from Cohen, actress Amy Schumer as well crushed the tech giants for not taking any action on Trump’s behalf and noted that these companies give the president a platform to spread “lies and conspiracies”.
Other prominent personalities such as Chelsea Handler, Judd Apatow, Monica Lewinsky and Lawrence O’Donnell also shared the same sentiment and made their voices heard.
“We all have to press and retweet @YouTube, @SusanWojcicki to stop the spread of misinformation,” Handler wrote quoting Cohen’s tweet.
It’s not the first time the “Chicago Trial 7” star has spoken out against the outgoing president. Recently, the Golden Globe winner admitted that he decided to revive Borat because of Trump’s presidency.
In an interview with Variety, Cohen revealed that he saw many threats to democracy under the Trump administration and thought it was the perfect time to resurrect the character.
“I felt that democracy was in danger. I felt like people’s lives were in danger and I felt compelled to finish the film, ”Cohen said, according to Variety.
