Shot in Muskogee, Oklahoma: Five children and one man killed

A suspect was arrested after police were asked about Tuesday’s shooting in Muskogee, police spokeswoman Lynn Hamlin said.

Police did not immediately disclose the name and age of the victims or the suspect. Investigators are trying to find out why the killings happened, he said.

“We don’t think it’s random, but we still don’t have details of‘ why ’or‘ what happened, ’” Hamlin told reporters.

Police received a call around 1:30 a.m. about people who had been shot at the home of Muskogee, a city of about 37,000 people, about a 40-mile drive southeast of Tulsa.

“When they arrived (officers) saw a suspect leave the residence with a gun in his hand. One of our officers fired at this suspect, disappearing,” Hamlin said.

The suspect ran, but officers arrested him after a short chase, Hamlin said.

Inside the house, officers found four children and a dead man, along with an injured child and the injured woman, all of them shot, police said.

Hamlin said the injured boy and woman were airlifted to a Tulsa hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead.

The woman was being treated for fatal injuries at the hospital, police said.

Investigators believe the victims were a family, Hamlin said. Investigators do not know if the suspect is related to them, he said.

The suspect was arrested Tuesday morning at the Muskogee County Jail, according to Hamlin.
