Some said it couldn’t be done.
Simu Liu, the star of Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” celebrates his record hit with fans on social media by revealing a little-known fact about his long-awaited Hollywood appearance.
The premiere of “Shang-Chi,” which shattered Labor Day box office records by raising $ 140 million, brings the first Asian MCU superhero.
In spite of everything his doubters, as well as those who denounced Disney for its weak promotion, the Canadian actor, rascal and expert martial artist did not stop believing. But Liu did what he had to do to fulfill his advantages before getting the cast as the ultimate protagonist of Marvel, including the often mocked (but economically stable) job of modeling photographs.
“I laugh at people I thought would be needed,” tweeted Liu, 32, on Monday, alongside an example from his wallet.
The attached photo shows Liu and two other stock models, available through services such as Getty Images and iStockphoto. It depicts a smiling Liu sitting in front of a laptop, pointing at the screen while a pair of fellow men and women glide on either side, both seemingly laughing.

More than 241,000 fans gave a boost to the tweet, including a few who went looking for more of Liu’s big picture hits.
“Wonderful looking at the box office numbers,” one replied, next to an image of Liu sitting at the head of a boardroom table full of smiling classmates.
“We did it,” wrote another, linked to the image of an Asian family, with Liu, starring in a movie at the cinema.
In fact, it took a long time for Liu who had disputed the role since he actually appeared in superhero studies. in a 2018 tweet, urging them to bring the singular character to the big screen: “Okay @ Marvel, we’ll talk or what #ShangChi [?]”
Those close to the production reminded the Hollywood Reporter that Liu “nailed” the many rounds of auditions. “He really won it,” said Sarah Finn, head of casting at Marvel. (Meanwhile, the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, maintains that he never saw Liu’s challenge on Twitter before the casting).
Several months later, in 2019, he he replied to the tweet, after the news that he had finally been chosen as the star. “Well s- -t,” wrote the humble actor.
