Owners of some old Apple TVs will soon have to rely on AirPthink if they want to see YouTube content on their devices.
Starting next month, third-generation Apple TVs will no longer be compatible with the YouTube app, a YouTube spokesman confirmed to Gizmodo. Users with these devices will still be able to view YouTube content, but will need to project it from another device instead of accessing it directly from the set-top box. 9to5Mac before reported loss of support.
“We always work to ensure that our users have the best experience on YouTube, and from time to time we need to make changes to our list of supported devices,” a YouTube spokesperson told Gizmodo in an email. “In early March, the YouTube app will no longer be available on third-generation Apple TV devices.”
The change does not affect the new generations of the Apple TV box. Streamers with an Apple TV 4K or an Apple TV HD will still be able to access the YouTube app natively, just like iPhone and iPad owners. After the change, owners of Apple TVs that also have iOS devices will be able to stream YouTube content via AirPfor any third-generation Apple TV.
We hope it is rumored Next generation Apple TV helps reduce the costs of some of your newer existing models, so upgrading is a little cheaper. Otherwise, it’s time to feel comfortable with AirPlay back.
