Square-Enix talks about how the pandemic delayed Bravely Default II until 2021

Bravely Default II will arrive on Switch on February 26, 2021, but the game was initially scheduled to launch in 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic led to a significant delay in the game. In an interview with Famitsu, Bravely Default II producer Masashi Takahashi detailed exactly how the pandemic pushed things back. Check out their comments below, translated by NintendoEverything.

The development that overlapped with the spread of the virus, combined with the fact that we didn’t know how long things would take, had a big impact on things.

As an example, progress in voice recording for foreign languages was slow. We had to train the voice actors remotely and they had to record in their house without background noise and then send us the audio; everyone involved gave it their all and we got it. We were a few months behind, but we were able to do the voice work without much trouble.

Both Square Enix and Claytechworks changed jobs from home, so it took a while to create home office environments. Even after we got things to work to some extent, we had some erroneous communications due to the first time it worked that way. It was a difficult decision to make, but given the situation, we delayed release until February 2021.
