SpaceX plans to build a new factory in Austin, Texas, adding another expansion to the region from one of Elon Musk’s companies after the founding billionaire moved there last year.

The installation plan was revealed in a job posting from the company, which is looking for an engineer for its Starlink satellite Internet division.

“To keep up with global demand, SpaceX is paving the way for a new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Austin, TX,” the company said in the message.

SpaceX noted that the factory is designed for “high-volume manufacturing,” specifically to manufacture “millions of consumer-oriented devices.” For your satellite internet network, these devices are known as the Starlink kit and include the antenna (or antenna) that connects to the satellites, Wi-Fi routers, and hardware mounting hardware. ‘antenna.

The company’s Starlink unit is currently headquartered in Redmond, Washington, a few miles east of Seattle. Redmond’s facilities have developed and produced Starlink equipment to date, with the company building more than 120 satellites a month.

The company did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request to comment on its plans for the Austin plant.

SpaceX’s plans for the new factory were first announced by Austin-based NBC affiliate KXAN.

Starlink is the company’s capital-intensive project to build an interconnected Internet network with thousands of satellites, known to the space industry as a constellation, designed to provide high-speed Internet to consumers in any part of the world. planet.

So far SpaceX has launched more than 1,000 satellites for Starlink. The job posting did not provide further details about the Austin factory, such as the square feet, when it is expected to go into operation or the planned production targets. The SpaceX publication noted that the paper will include working remotely in Austin and traveling about a quarter of the time to SpaceX’s Los Angeles headquarters, “until the Austin facilities are fully established.”
