“Ohhhhh, you are excited to be nominated for an Oscar? Want to be 100% sure when you attend the Oscars? It’s right? Yes well no zoom for you! ”

Basically, that’s what the producers of the upcoming Oscar ceremony said in a letter sent to all the nominees this week. The letter explains that this year’s event will be held in person; he described it how “An intimate, face-to-face event at Union Station in Los Angeles, with additional live show elements from Hollywood’s Dolby Theater;” and explained that Zoom will not be an option for candidates who don’t want to travel to the event or who just don’t feel comfortable attending an “intimate” ceremony in person. (The Dolby Theater, with a capacity of over 3,400, it has been home to the Oscars since 2001; obviously this is so not one safe-deposit box its primary this year given the ongoing pandemic).

“For those who are unable to attend due to scheduling or continued concern about traveling, we want you to know that there will be no option to approach the program,” the letter states, in what may have been an undefined recognition , technical errorplagat Golden Globe. “We will make a great effort to provide a safe and ENJOYABLE evening for all of you in person, as well as for all the millions of movie fans around the world, and we believe that virtual will diminish those efforts.”

The capital lettersby the way, this is not ours. This is part of the letter, which is filled with very strange, almost passive aggressive capital letters. These are some of our favorites.

  • “Of course, your first thought is WHAT CAN BE SAFE? The answer is YES, I CAN. “
  • “Therefore, if STORIES are important, it is the PEOPLE who give life to these stories that matter. That is, YOU “
  • “We think the show is not ‘too long’ because of the speeches. SAID THAT, WE WOULD LIKE TO SAY THIS: With great freedom there is a great responsibility and if you are wondering what exactly we mean by that, we mean READ THE ROOM. Tell a story. If you thank someone, say their name, not their title. Don’t say MY DIRECTOR, PEGGY, just say PEGGY. Make it PERSONAL. “

Stop calling them, producers! They are nominated for an Oscar!

There is much more on the menu, including more details on safety precautions, cegg tests, a few words about the dress code, and the general idea to give each candidate a moment to shine, all you can read more Indiewire. But it will be very interesting to see who appears inand who doesn’t this year.
