With the death of LG’s phone business, The repeated price rises of OnePlus and the disappearance of HTC, finding a mid-range phone in the United States that includes impressive specifications for the price is not as easy as before, which makes the launch of the Xiaomi 11T even more disappointing .

Starting at just 500 euros, the Xiaomi 11T includes a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 Ultra processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a large 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz (not to mention speak of a touch sample frequency of 480 Hz), triple rear cameras and a large 5,000 mAh battery. Right after all, this marks all the flagship level specifications, with the only major omissions being the lack of wireless charging and a microSD card slot (which has also become an increasingly rare feature).

But despite promising for years that it would explore the sale of phones in the US (and that it has recently been withdrawn from one of the US blacklists), Xiaomi has not yet done so. And while I’ve only had a short time to check out the 11T so far, I find it great value compared to the selection of other $ 500 phones available in the US

The 11T is the centerpiece of Xiaomi’s new 11 series range. It’s cheaper than the 650-euro 11T Pro more expensive and a little thinner than the 379-euro 11 Lite 5G, i there are some obvious trade-offs in terms of its design. For example, meinstead of glass on the back, you will get one glossy polycarbonate similar to Samsung A52 5G, which is great for me. There is also no dedicated 3.5mm audio jack or official water resistance rating, which are features would like to see it on a mid-range phone.

The 11T even includes a handy fingerprint sensor mounted on the side integrated into the power button.

Ccompared to a phone with a similar price as the 2021 Moto Edge, the Xiaomi 11T is competitive, with a 108 MP high resolution main camera, a Ultra wide 8 MP camera and a third 5 MP camera that captures both macro and telephoto shots using a 2x zoom. Xiaomi didn’t have to sacrifice zoom capabilities like Moto did when you consider that the Moto Edge costs $ 700 without its initial promotional discount for a limited time, it seems that the 11T is a better offer. The 11T even includes a fairly fast, blowing 67-watt cable charge just about anything you can get from a comparable US $ 500 phone out of the water.

And while I keep that Google Pixel 5a is the best mid-range phone for people in the United States because of its software, excellent camera quality and normal Google function drops and updates, the Pixel 5a a slightly dated Snapdragon 765G chip and only 6GB of RAM make it clear the Xiaomi 11T has a very high pace in specifications and performance departments.

Nit must Xiaomi has overcome Huawei as China ‘s largest smartphone maker (while also passing by Apple at number 2) place in the global ranking), it seems that finally the time may be right for Xiaomi to start selling its phones in North America. LG and others have it has left a gap in the smartphone space and it looks like the world’s second largest phone maker is losing a market that desperately needs more competition.

Maybe someday. Uuntil then, Americans will simply have to appreciate Xiaomi’s mix value and performance from afar and wonder what it could have been when 9/11 goes on sale later this month.
