DETROIT – An out of service Detroit Police Officer he was injured during a shooting with a van driver who repeatedly hit his vehicle on I-75, according to officials.
The officer was heading south on I-75 near Springwells Street, a Southwest Detroit around midnight on Thursday, when she was pulled back by a black Ford F-150, police said.
As she tried to pull away, the van followed her and crashed into her vehicle, pitting her against the wall of the construction barrier, officials said.
The officer met the 34-year-old man who was driving the van, according to police. He got out of the van and began exchanging shots with the officer, according to authorities.
During the shooting, both the officer and the 34-year-old man were shot dead, according to police.
The officer suffered a body injury before fleeing to block 7900 of Olivet Street and seeking help, officials reported. Medical officers took her to a nearby hospital and she appears stable.
Police said the 34-year-old man was also shot. He was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
According to authorities, the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated.
