Genesis unites the battery pack of electric vehicles with his new G80 electrified. The first EV from Hyundai’s luxury sub-brand comes standard with all-wheel drive and a clean function that allows the vehicle to act as an emergency power supply to power appliances.

The Genesis Electrified G80, revealed at Shanghai Motor Show 2021, is the pure electric version of the G80 sedan that Genesis says is the core of its range of sedans. It looks the same as the gasoline-powered G80, with some minor changes, such as a facie lining and a rear bumper. I’m really digging up the green paint.

The sedan comes standard with an all-wheel drive system managed by the Disconnector Actuator System (DAS). The strangely named function switches the car between AWD and RWD depending on driving conditions, ensuring optimum efficiency. Genesis says the E-G80 has a torque of 365 horsepower and a speed of 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

It also includes a file Vehicle system to load which has a maximum power of 3.6 kW. This allows G80 Electrified owners to use their cars as a generator to power appliances in an emergency. Some other electric vehicles have this, but it is a perfect feature to see fitted in more vehicles. This power is higher than that provided by the 2.4 kW Power Onboard system of the Ford F-150 hybrid, a feature that has been well used during the Texas freeze earlier this year.

Genesis has not provided full specifications for the battery, but says it offers an estimated maximum range of more than 310 miles according to NEDC standards; using Korea’s EV rating, the Electrified G80 has a range of 265 miles. The package supports a fast charge of 350 kW, which according to the company will replace the battery from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes.

The car retains the familiar G80 interior with some upgrades. Genesis says this interior includes recycled fabrics, natural materials and that leather uses natural dyes.

To add an extra touch of luxury, it features an anti-noise system to reduce road drones in the cab and an adaptive suspension that uses a camera to determine how to adjust.

Overall, while Genesis hasn’t created anything too incredible or changed the world, it has produced a strong EV contender. But if I can suggest a better name, call it G8E. You can email my check.

Genesis has not disclosed the cost, but says information about its introduction in the United States and Canada will arrive later this year. The range doesn’t sound impressive, but we’ll see what happens when it arrives in America. I hope you keep that sweet green-green color when it reaches our shores.
