F-Zero is due to Miyamoto not being able to figure out what to do when Mario Kart 8 has specifically taken on the role of F-Zero with the anti-gravity and 200cc additions to 8. F-Zero needs a reboot / trick to break away from Mario Kart 8.
Star Fox has long been released due to the derailment of the Star Fox Adventures franchise onwards. Nintendo has tried to remake Star Fox 64 and restart Star Fox 64 just to not reactivate the series (the latter only failed because Wii U and hardcore gamers refuse to leave comfort zones). Ubisoft’s use of Star Fox couldn’t even do anything. Star Fox is practically dead. Maybe in 30 years Nintendo may try to restart the series (meanwhile Nintendo will re-release Star Fox 1, 2 and 64).
Kid Icarus is mainly due to the fact that no one is available and if there was anyone available, no one got a successful release for a new Kid Icarus game. Sakurai temporarily reactivated the KI franchise, but does not want to return to that franchise. Uprising had good sales, but had strong criticism about the controls and Nintendo might feel like re-launching Uprising on a newer platform with better controls and a better multiplayer balance will not be the answer to rekindle interest in Kid Icarus.
All other minor IPs are IP addresses that only meet expectations or have fallen short. Some of Nintendo’s new 3DS-era IP addresses are missing from Switch’s action. Mallo and Pushmo have not been seen since Wii U / 3DS. Sakura Samurai has not had a new game since 3DS. There are many other examples.
If no one buys these minor titles, Nintendo has no choice but to make Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda and Smash Bros. games. (with receiving the occasional Pokémon game from The Pokemon Company). Yes, that means buying games you don’t want like Paper Mario: Origami King and Star Fox Zero (Wii U).
By not buying minor games and games that change the formula or have non-traditional controls, you see Nintendo in a third-party production role that they do now (after all, people always wanted Nintendo to be third and now we see them in a third-party production frenzy with few games outside of Nintendo’s main AAA).
