The reigning Mrs World, Caroline Jurie, has resigned her title, according to the organization leading the pageant on Tuesday afternoon, weeks after she was involved in a controversy at the Mrs Sri Lanka event.

Jurie was arrested and released on bail this month after a failure in Ms. Sri Lanka’s contest in Colombo, where Jurie forcibly removed the winner’s crown, alleging that the other woman was divorced and she was not qualified to win the title. Read more

“Her decision to voluntarily resign was made exclusively by Caroline herself,” Ms. World Inc. said Tuesday afternoon in a statement on social media.

Jurie was not immediately accessible for comment.

Kate Schneider of Ireland, runner-up in the 2020 contest won by Jurie, will be the new Mrs World 2020, the organization said.

The organization had said that the organizers of the country pageant had to review a local theme and that it would have nothing to do with the Mrs World 2021 contest that Sri Lanka will host this year.

The winner of Ms. Sri Lanka’s contest, Pushpika De Silva, filed a complaint against Jurie. Read more

Jurie was arrested when she visited a police station to record her statement.

The winner of the Mrs Sri Lanka contest will compete in the Mrs World contest. Jurie won the Mrs Sri Lanka crown in 2019 and won the Mrs World crown in 2020 in Las Vegas.
