After canceling the face-to-face competition in 2020 due to the rise of the covid-19 pandemic, The Pokémon Company announced that it will omit official tournaments until 2021 as well.

“The safety and well-being of our competitors, organizers, employees, local communities and partners [continue] be our top priority and is the top consideration in every decision we make, “the company statement said.”[W]I made the difficult decision to get out of the next one Pokémon World Championships until 2022. This event is scheduled to take place in London, United Kingdom.

As with previous events, this year’s Pokémon World Championships featured competitions at the Pokémon video games and trading cards, as well as individual fighting game Pokkén Tournament with satellite qualifiers to the main London event. Instead, the Pokémon Company will focus its efforts in 2021 on getting organized online Pokémon Players Cup events, just like last year. Players who are already invited to compete in 2020 will see their invitations re-broadcast until 2022.

“Thank you to our millions of players, fans, organizers and teachers around the world for their continued support and understanding,” the announcement added. “He Pokémon International Championships and Pokémon The World Championships are significant occasions for us and for the player community, and we look forward to seeing each other and competing again.
