Update Google Chrome immediately

Security vulnerabilities are one inevitable part of digital life. Google recently discovered 11 for Chrome, two of which are active and in the wild, and quickly issued a solution. As such, you should upgrade as soon as possible.

What’s the problem with these Google Chrome vulnerabilities?

Monday, September 13, Google has released a security update for Chrome which fixed 11 known issues, including two that the company identified as actively exploited zero-day vulnerabilities. This means that the bad actors took advantage of two of these security vulnerabilities without the knowledge of Google or other relevant entities.

Google says “anonymous investigators” are responsible for informing the company of these two critical errors. The reports, which ran through Sept. 8, detailed what those vulnerabilities were called CVE-2021-30632 i CVE-2021-30633—They are exploited by out-of-bounds writing in V8 and use after indexed database application. The new update that fixes these issues is version 93.0.4577.82.

How do I upgrade Chrome to fix these vulnerabilities?

Chrome may automatically update in the background, so these patches may already be installed. If not, an update button may appear in the browser in one of the following three colors:

  • Green: An update was posted less than 2 days ago.
  • Orange: An update was posted about 4 days ago.
  • Red: An update was posted at least a week ago.

At the time of posting this article, the update is new enough that you only need to see a green button. Downs the road, you may end up seeing one of the other two colors.

To upgrade, click Month (the three vertical dots) in the menu bar. If there isAn update is available, click “Update Google ChromeIf you don’t see this option, Google says your browser is completely up to date. Return to Month button, click Helpand then choose “About Google Chrome“. You’ll see your current version of Chrome as the app searches for any available updates. If one is available, you can follow the on-screen instructions to install it from here. Remember, the new version is 93.0.4577.82.

Google wasn’t the only one with security issues: The same day Google announced this patch, Apple launched it a new update for all your current products. The company revealed an active zero-click iMessage error that can infect a user’s iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac without the user having to do anything.
