Upton was previously censored by the party for his vote to oust Trump after a deadly riot carried out by his supporters at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th.
“We believe Deputy Upton’s vote is a betrayal of his oath of office and the core values of the Cass County Republican Party,” the resolution passed by the Cass County Executive Committee said, according to the Detroit News.
After reacting to her controversial comments about school shootings and QAnon conspiracy theory, Greene was stripped of her committee duties.
“If it weren’t for the post and Facebook comments I liked in 2018, I wouldn’t be here today and you couldn’t point the finger and accuse me of anything,” Greene said on the floor of the house earlier this year. “They allowed me to believe things that weren’t true. I would ask questions about them and talk about them, and that’s absolutely what I’m sorry about.”
Upton said it should be up to Greene County voters to decide whether to allow him to remain in Congress, but the House was right to remove her from its committees.
“I was part of that committee and I met with survivors of Columbine school shootings,” he said. “Since then I’ve met with Parkland and Sandy Hook School shooting survivors and heard all their personal stories. I shouldn’t be on the education committee and Congress was right to withdraw it, period “.
