The compatriot’s body arrived in El Salvador this Saturday on a flight from Cancun, Mexico. “This costs money,” said Victoria’s family, who was killed by Mexican police during an arrest.

This Saturday morning the remains of Victoria Salazar arrived at the “Oscar Arnulfo Romero” International Airport and were then taken to Sonsonate to be cared for by her family. Victoria was killed on March 27 by 4 police officers in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

The coffin with the remains of the 36-year-old woman arrived in El Salvador on a plane where the victim’s mother, Rosibel Arriaza, and Victoria’s two minor daughters also traveled.

Alfonso Olivares, Victoria’s father, gave brief statements to the media moments after receiving his daughter’s remains in Sonsonate. Olivares said the family is dismayed and trying to prosecute the pain caused by the murder of Victoria, who had a visa to reside as a migrant in Mexico.

The president of Mexico, Manuel López Obrador, spoke at a press conference on March 29 in which he stressed that “she was brutally treated and murdered. It is a fact that fills us with grief, pain and shame.” He added that the four Tulum police officers, a woman and three men, already have a criminal case.

“There will be no impunity,” the Mexican president remarked.

The victim’s family has called for his death not to go unpunished and the Salvadoran government is providing assistance.

In Mexico, the four police officers linked to the Salvadoran’s murder will continue in prison while they are prosecuted.
