According to a press release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the 38-year-old has been staying at Brandon’s Homewood Suites, about 12 miles outside of Tampa, since Jan. 11.
Sheriff’s office officials said they spoke with Jackson’s relatives Feb. 10, after they called to report he was missing. A formal report was presented the next day.
Last Friday, officials said they located Jackson at the Homewood Suites and spoke with him, according to the press release.
“After assessing Jackson’s well-being, the case of the missing people was canceled,” the statement said.
Jackson was found dead at 11:30 a.m. Monday by a housewife. There were no apparent signs of trauma.
The Hillsborough County Medical Office will determine the cause of death and officially identify Jackson’s remains based on dental or DNA records, according to the press release.
“Mr. Jackson was a devout man who put his family and community above all else,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement Monday. “Aside from football, he touched countless lives through his Jackson In Action Foundation 83. We shared a passion for supporting military families and, three years ago, even Jackson was named an honorary deputy for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office to recognize his dedication to the community. “
“Not only will they miss football fans across the country, but also the people of Hillsborough County who reaped the benefits of their generous contributions.”
Jackson played 12 seasons in the NFL
“Vincent was a fan favorite, not only for his Pro Browl game on the field, but for the impact it caused on the community,” the statement said. “The work he has done for military families through his founding during the years following his retirement has been an inspiration to all of us.”
“Vincent was a father, a husband, a businessman and a dedicated philanthropist, who had a profound impact on our community through his tireless advocacy for military families, with the support of the Jackson in Action Foundation 83 “, it is said in the communiqué.
