Virgin Galactic is gearing up for its next space flight attempt, with the company announcing Monday that it will re-run the aborted flight test from December 13th.

The space tourism company said that one of the key objectives of the space flight tests “will be to test the repair work that has been completed since … the on-board computer stopped the ignition of the rocket engine” .

“Since then, the team has performed the analysis of the root causes, completed the necessary corrective work and conducted thorough ground tests. The next step will be to evaluate and verify this work during a rocket-powered flight.” , said Virgin Galactic in a press release.

Shares of Virgin Galactic rose up 9% in pre-market trading since its previous close.

Virgin Galactic will also aim at each of the original objectives of the December flight attempt, including the evaluation of elements of the customer’s cabin, the test of live transmission capability from the spacecraft to the ground, and the assessment of horizontal stabilizers and updated flight controls during the flight augmentation phase, ”the company said.

After the flight test, Virgin Galactic said it would “complete a thorough review of data” to “report the next steps of the test flight program.” Prior to the December aborted flight, Virgin Galactic hoped to conduct three remaining spaceflight tests before commercial flights began. The second and third spaceflight tests were already scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.
