Have you ever wondered why AirPods Pro battery level almost always around 80%? This is because Apple automatically enables a feature that reduces battery aging and, as a result, reduces charging speed significantly once the AirPods Pro battery is charged to 80%. If you’re in a hurry to fully charge your AirPods Pro, there’s an easy way to avoid this function.

Why is Apple slowing down AirPods Pro?

Apple uses a feature called Optimized Battery Charging to improve the battery health of AirPods Pro. This feature increases the battery life of your AirPods Pro, which means you won’t end up with an unusable battery life within a year of purchasing this product. That’s good. But it will also prevent the battery from charging as fast as you want when you are away from the charger for an extended period of time. Not so good.

This feature may remind you rlegal proceedings over those of Apple battery regulation practices, but this is not an example that Apple is evil. AirPods Pro uses lithium-ion battery technology (like almost any other consumer electronics product) and the limitation of this technology is that battery capacity decreases over time. There is no way to stop the aging of these batteries, but yes ways to slow down this process. Apple’s solution is enabling Optimized battery charge by default in AirPods Pro.

If you are in a situation where you need the AirPods Pro fully charged quickly, try disabling optimized battery charging. Please note that we do not recommend disabling this feature permanentlyif you disable it, it is a good idea to do so reactive once your need for fast charging has passed, so you won’t unnecessarily shorten yours AirPods Pro battery life.

However, if you are in a bit and absolutely do you need to charge your AirPods Pro as soon as possible, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Connect your AirPods Pro to your iPhone or iPad. (For most people, this involves taking Yours AirPods Pro out of the box and sticking them to your ears; they will it usually connects automatically to the iPhone or iPad.)
  2. On the device, go to Settings> Bluetooth.
  3. Tap the button jo button next to AirPods Pro.
  4. Scroll down and turn it off Optimized battery charge.
  5. When you do this, you will see a pop-up window on your iPhone asking you to confirm this action. You can select Turn it off until tomorrow turn it off temporarily, which is probably a good idea for the reasons mentioned above. Or you can live dangerously and select Close to turn off the optimized battery charge ppermanently (until you turn it on manually again).

You can check if you have the required version by going to Settings> General> About and checking the number next to it Software version. If you have an earlier version of iOS or iPadOS, go to Settings> General> Software Update and upgrade it to a newer version of iOS.
