Phone manufacturers are constantly looking to unite with each other with new technologies and features, and if they are new the teasers are legitimate, Xiaomi may have a real edge over the competition with what appears to be one Liquid camera lens designed for an upcoming Mi Mix phone.
Based on a a handful of images ia clip shared on Weibo, Xiaomi is trying to replace the traditional glass elements and focus motors used in current smartphone camera lenses with a liquid lens that can be controlled and adjusted by applying an electric charge. This would change the goal form to focus on variable distance subjects, Xiaomi claims that the technology will result in longer zooms and faster autofocus than traditional smartphone camera lenses.
While the idea of a liquid lens may seem a little strange or distant, the principle is actually quite similar to the way the human eye works. LiThe ght enters the eye through the cornea, passes through the iris, and then centers through the crystalline layer and the aqueous fluid of the eye before hitting the retina.
Currently, due to their cost and complexity, liquid lenses are usually reserved for specialized industrial uses where traditional glass lenses may be too fragile or delicate. However, this is not the first time a smartphone company has come up with the idea of a liquid camera lens. Huawei has patented its own liquid lens last year.

The great advantage of a liquid lens is that it could allow smartphone companies to use the same lens for different focal lengths, while still being thin enough to fit in one phone. That contrasts with current phones, which use several image sensors each with its own own support lens to provide a primary, ultra-wide, macro and telephoto camera of the device.
The current approach is a kind of brute force method enabled by the fact that adding additional image sensors to a device is relatively inexpensive, which led some companies to create devices with a large number of lenses on their backs (see the Nokia 9 PureView i Light L16).
Xiaomi liquid lens may not be fully prepared for the consumer devices yet, however Demonstrating your liquid lens with a new Mi Mix concept makes a lot of sense, because Historically, Xiaomi has used the Mi Mix line to test new designs or technology that the company is researching. Other concepts the company has tested include the My Mix Alpha of 2019 with its wrapperaround the screen and the Mi Mix portable concept since the beginning of this year.
Although not much is known about the upcoming Mi Mix, Xiaomi says it will unveil the device on March 29, so we won’t you have to wait a long time to find out more.
