Florida:
Former United States President Donald Trump has resigned from the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) after his national leadership voted to consider expelling his role in the incitement to the January riots at the U.S. Capitol.
In his resignation letter to SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris on “the so-called Disciplinary Committee hearing aimed at revoking my union membership,” Trump said he “no longer wants to be associated” with the union.
“Who cares,” Trump said. He also wrote how he was “proud” of his work in films such as “Home Alone 2” and “Saturday Night Live,” to name “just a few.”
According to the Washington Post, in response to Trump’s letter, SAG-AFTRA issued a concise statement: “Thank you.”
Trump in his resignation letter said he “helped a lot” in the cable news and “created thousands of jobs” and described the disciplinary flaws as “even more flagrant.”
“While I’m not familiar with your work, I’m very proud of my work in films like Home Alone 2, Zoolander and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps; and TV shows that include The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Saturday Night Live, and of course, one of the most successful programs in the history of television, The Apprentice, to name just a few, “the former president wrote.
“I’ve also helped a lot with the cable TV business (which was said to be an agonizing platform that I don’t have much time left until I’m into politics) and I’ve created thousands of jobs on networks like MSDNC and Fake News CNN, among many others, “he added.
Trump continued to attack the organization calling it the “blatant attempt” of free media attention to distract itself from its painful (of the organization) history as a union.
“Your organization has done little for its members, and nothing for me, other than charging dues and promoting dangerous anti-American ideas and policies, as evidenced by your massive unemployment rates and demands from famous actors, who even they all recorded a video asking, “Why? the union is not fighting for me? ” Trump said.
“I no longer want to be associated with your union. As such, this letter will inform you of my immediate resignation from SAG-AFTRA. You have done nothing for me,” the former commander-in-chief wrote.
The union announced in mid-January that its national board had “overwhelmingly voted” in favor of holding a disciplinary hearing on Trump’s actions, with possible consequences ranging from fines and suspension to expulsion.
The charges came from Carteris, SAG-AFTRA said in a press release, citing both Trump’s role in inciting the attack and “the maintenance of a reckless disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting and ultimately to threaten the safety of journalists “.
“Donald Trump attacked the values that this union considers most sacred: democracy, truth, respect for our fellow Americans of all races and denominations, and the sanctity of the free press,” Carteris said in the statement. quoted by the Washington Post.
The former president has been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1989.
