Our DaCosta Captain Marvel sequel has now formally reached the stage of its existence “Well, let’s guess who will be the bad guy”, with Limit date reports that Zawe Ashton will play the bad in the return of Brie Larson to the role of everyone’s favorite cosmic MCU badass. Ashton is probably best known to the public for playing Josephina in the 2019 horror and art satire Velvet Buzzsaw, along with the starring roles on Netflix Wanderlust and British comedy series Fresh meat.
And since Marvel won’t just tell us who Ashton is playing, it’s time for the most sacred Club AV traditions: baseless speculation, driven by nothing more than our knowledge of comics sometimes between 20 and 40 years full years. Now, given that Carol Danvers doesn’t really do that have so many non-specific enemies of Kree, ours the soft money here is playing Ashton Karla “Moonstone” Sofen, who acted as Danvers’ evil counterpart during Marvel’s huge attitude “Dark Reign” period in the late 2000s. Although she and Carol have had (relatively) few direct entries (tangles more often with the first Marvel Captain and Hulk), Moonstone is an interesting character in his own right: a rogue psychiatrist who likes to kill people as much as she does by analyzing her enemies. And, again: there are fair ones too really a very, very small number of “Captain Marvel villain ” running through the world of Marvel Comics, so it ends up being ours bI guess by default.
Or maybe Ashton is playing a Skrull. (They’re always the Skrulls!)
Captain Marvel 2 is currently scheduled for November 2022, with DaCosta directing a screenplay written by WandaVision story editor Megan McDonnell.
