Zelda’s voice actress from Breath of the Wild / Age of Calamity talks about online negativity for her performance and how she treated her

Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the first official game in the franchise to give voice to Zelda. This voice was provided by Patricia Summersett, who reprized her role for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. In an interview with Zelda Dungeon’s The Champion Cast, Summersett talks about how some of the negative reactions to her performance affected her and how she used some of that negativity to fuel her performance in Age of Calamity. Check out his comments below.

“At first, it was harder to deal with, because I was very sensitive and I wanted everyone to be as happy as possible for such a great game. [Breath of the Wild]. You really have to keep that kind of thing in perspective, or yes. You really have to be positive about these things. I would say negative people tend to be more vocal online, by default; is the nature of network algorithms, and it needs to get used to. I think you have to build a thick skin with something like that. I would definitely say that my skin has thickened a lot over the last few years, since I took on this particular role, just because a thicker skin is required than some of the other types of failures or criticisms I have had in the past.

There’s also something to channel, because that’s how Zelda feels and she’s doing really well, but she feels that way forever, and that’s her dish. I think it’s very relatable that way. Everyone who takes risks and tries to work very hard on anything, finds it. I love her character in general, the fact that they delve into this part of the plot for her: what it means for her to feel like a failure, but keep moving forward and struggling to achieve something bigger and for the benefit of all. This can be used as inspiration as if heroes are used as inspiration.
