Facebook Inc. (FB.O) said Wednesday that it is making changes to its advertising tools to comply with an upcoming privacy update from Apple Inc. (AAPL.O), limiting the effectiveness of the data collection features used by Facebook. advertisers.

The world’s largest social media company has been in disfavor with Apple’s feature, which is expected to begin with the latest iPhone software update next week, allowing users to block advertisers from tracking the different applications.

Apple says it defends data privacy rights, but faces criticism from Facebook, app developers and startups whose business models are based on ad tracking.

Facebook said Wednesday that changes to its advertising tools would limit how target audiences can be selected and how the success of an advertising campaign is measured.

The company said it invests in technologies that enhance privacy to minimize the amount of data collected from users.

Facebook and Apple have also tangled the fees the iPhone maker charges for apps that appear on iOS devices, with the social media giant supporting the small developers most affected by the policy.
