September 6 (Reuters) – Qualcomm Inc (QCOM.O) said Monday it will supply a key computer chip for the digital dashboard of a new Renault SA electric vehicle (RENA.PA).

Qualcomm, based in San Diego, California, the world’s largest supplier of key semiconductors for mobile phones, has been expanding into vehicles with chips that can power both boards and entertainment systems. The company announced earlier this year an agreement with General Motors Co. (GM.N) to use Qualcomm chips.

Qualcomm said Monday that Renault’s Mégane E-TECH Electric will use its chips to power the vehicle’s entertainment system using Google’s software from Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL.O), Qualcomm’s longtime partner in the Android telephony.

The Mégane E-TECH Electric, which will be presented at this month’s IAA Mobility 2021 automotive fair in Munich, is expected to go on sale next year.
