YouTube has a copyright issue. Fortunately, the company is adding a new “Checks” tool that can help you spot potential copyright claims. before a video is posted and avoid blocked or demonetized videos, or worse.

Don’t worry if you get an alert – these are preventive notifications so you can fix issues before a video goes public. Claims against you will only take effect after the video is posted, so be sure to edit the video or answer the claim to avoid monetization, blocked or deleted videos, and other copyright-related claims that may harm your channel.

What to do if you receive a copyright or ad alert alert

For copyright claims, you can:

  • Use YouTube studio’s built-in editing tools to trim, mute, or replace the highlighted part of the video.

It is important to note that videos are only scanned for possible Content ID claims during initial upload. Manual copyright infringement warnings may still occur after a video is posted, and there may be future eligibility issues if changes to YouTube’s advertising policies cause your metadata to remain obsolete. However, YouTube hopes the new checks will make it easier to resolve Content ID claims.
