LONDON – Electronic Arts reached an agreement on Monday to buy UK video game developer Godmaster in a $ 1.2 billion deal.
This agreement enhances the previous transaction agreed between the competition publisher Tag-to-Interactive and the codemaster. The company approved the codemasters last month for $ 726 million ($ 971 million).
“The Codemasters Board considers the various aspects of the EA offer to represent a better offer for Codemasters’ shareholders compared to the Take-Two offer,” the British company said in a statement.
Codemasters’ shareholders will receive $ 6.04 in cash for each ordinary share of Codemasters. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2021, E.A.
The acquisition of Codemasters marks the largest deal in EA history, and comes amid growing integration in the video game industry as the corona virus infection has accelerated the demand for gaming.
In September, Microsoft announced the acquisition of Genmax Media, which owns Bethesda Softworks, for $ 7.5 billion, the largest gaming acquisition in Microsoft history.
Codemasters are often known to Formula One and Dirt Racing game owners. The merger with EA will see those big titles fall under the same ownership of the popular racing series Need for Speed.
