Finally, Hulu offers support for highly dynamic range streaming.

While the streaming service has supported 4K streaming on all of its exclusive and original TV series since at least 2016, and even competitors like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + and Paramount + offer support for HDR transmission for years, Hulu had remained a stubborn obstinacy until very recently.

The news was first seen by an experienced Internet user AVS Forum, which collected an updated entry in Hulu Support Page which states that users can “currently stream certain Hulu originals in high dynamic range (HDR), HDR10, HDR10 + and Dolby Vision on selected devices.”

HDR content offers a higher contrast range, resulting in a much finer, richer image. According to Hulu, an HDR badge will now appear on the content details page when it is available for playback in HDR.

It should be noted that HDR support has been added to most, but not all, original Hulu series. WThere are TV deals like Nine perfect strangers, The maid’s story, High fidelity i Small fires everywhere and movies like Happier season i We work currently all are compatible with HDR, other series, such as FX’s American Horror Story, does not currently appear to support HDR.

According to Hulu, the option to play HDR content is currently only available to readers with “certain devices” running the latest version of the company’s app, which includes:

  • Roku (HDR compatible models)
  • Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube devices (HDR compatible models with Fire OS 7 or later)
  • Apple TV 4K (fifth generation or later)
  • Vizio (HDR compatible models)
  • Chromecast Ultra (HDR compatible models)

Although Hulu has been coming to the HDR party for a few years, it is a great consolation that the platform currently offers support for HDR10 + and Dolby Vision, given that most of its competitors, with the notable exception of HBO max—Currently only one or the other is admitted.
