He New York News documentary Framing Britney fell on Hulu on Feb. 5 and Justin Timberlake is already facing reaction to his past treatment of Britney Spears.
While the documentary aimed to explore the #FreeBritney movement and its ongoing conservatism, fans particularly adhered to a part of the document that re-examined her relationship with the former NSYNC member, who lasted from 1998 to 2002. After one of the most dramatic reputations in pop history, Spears’ reputation was a huge success.
The film talks about how Timberlake propelled the narrative that Spears had deceived him, and the public uproar was severe. “The way people treated her, for being very secondary, was like she was the school whore and he was the quarterback.” NOW general critic Wesley Morris says in the film.
Morris suggests that Timberlake put together his “Cry Me a River” music video to blame Spears. It’s almost creepy to hear Timberlake, the alleged victim, mocking having sex with Spears in a post-separation radio interview featured in the documentary.
“Justin Timberlake has done a lot of things for which he has to apologize, but his dealings with Britney are at the top of the list,” one Twitter user wrote. “I want to publicly apologize and acknowledge the harm he has done.”
It should be noted that in 2006, four years after their breakup, Timberlake released another possible broadcast track, “What Goes Around … Comes Around,” while Spears publicly struggled with his second divorce and sobriety.
Fans are also pondering how the pop star was treated throughout his career, from incessant press questions about his virginity and body to the misogynistic response to his breakup of Timberlake. .
The documentary highlights a 2003 interview with Diane Sawyer, where the broadcast journalist apparently justified a quote from the former governor of Maryland’s wife, Kendel Ehrlich, in which he claimed he would shoot Britney Spears if she had a chance. “It simply came to our notice then. That’s very bad, ”Spears said in response to the quote.“ Because of the example for the kids and how hard it is to be a parent, ”Sawyer replies.
“I’d like to know better personally then,” Terron Moore tweeted. “It’s nothing short of terrifying to see so clearly what we did as a culture to this woman who deserved absolutely nothing.”
Framing Britney is available to play on Hulu.
