Tesla Inc. (TSLA.O) vehicle registrations in California fell marginally during the first quarter compared to last year, weighed down by a drop in Model 3 registrations, according to data from Cross-Sell, a ‘research that collects degree and enrollment data.

California records for Tesla’s Model 3 mass market sedan fell 54% year-on-year to 8,060, while Tesla’s Model Y compact crossover utility vehicle gained 12,227 in the first quarter, according to data from Cross-Sell Tuesday.

Tesla had previously said that it was receiving a strong reception of the Model Y in China and that it is advancing rapidly towards the country’s full production capacity.

The report also showed registrations in California, a problem for the electric car maker and its largest U.S. market, which went from 22,117 fourth-quarter vehicles to 21,520 first-quarter vehicles.

Total vehicle registrations in the first quarter in the 22 states where data were collected stood at 44,502, with the Y model exceeding half of the registrations.

Enrollment figures may not accurately reflect the number of vehicle deliveries during the quarter, as registrations in the United States typically take about 30 days from the time of sale.

Tesla, whose shares rose more than 700% in 2020, is expected to report first-quarter results after the market closed on April 26th.
