After making a selection of offers over the past few months, Netflix Inc. is gearing up as summer arrives, with some fan-favorite series coming back in May, along with some well-known original films.
The biggest in the group seems to be Zack Snyder’s zash / casino-heist mashup, “Army of the Dead” (May 21), a cheerfully violent taper film starring Dave Bautista. As for the movie, there are some too “The woman at the window” (May 14), starring Amy Adams in a sort of psychological thriller “Rear Window” that saw its release delayed a year due to the pandemic; i “Oxygen” (May 12), a French science fiction thriller starring Mélanie Laurent as a woman trapped in a cryogenic chamber.
The funny thing is the Emmy-winning comedy series by Aziz Ansari “Master of Head” returns for its third season (TBA date) after a four-year lag, which led to allegations of sexual misconduct against Ansari in 2018. The new season moved to New York shooting in London and apparently will focus more on Lena Waithe’s character, Denise.
Netflix NFLX,
also has the second part of season 5 of the drama about supernatural crimes (and fan favorite) “Lucifer” (May 28); and the second part of “Selena: The Series” (May 4), about the life of the Mexican-American pop superstar. There are also “Halston” (TBA date), a limited series by Ryan Murphy and starring Ewan McGregor as an iconic fashion designer; the docuseries of true crime “Sam’s Children: A Descent into the Dark” May 5); the superhero-comic adaptation “The Legacy of Jupiter” (May 7), starring Josh Duhamel and Leslie Bibb; the financial docuseries “Money explained” (May 11); the sitcom “The Upshaws” (May 12), starring Mike Epps, Wanda Sykes and Kim Fields; a new season of the Emmy-winning animated anthology series “Love, Death and Robots: Volume 2” (May 14); Season 2 of the popular Mexican thriller “Who killed Sara?” (May 19); the second season of “Special” (May 20), the comedy about a young gay man with cerebral palsy; and season 3 of the comedy “The Kominsky Method” (May 28), starring Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin.
Allowed: What airs in May on Hulu | Amazon Prime video
